As part of an integrated approach to care, parent consultation, coordination with schools and other health care providers is often implemented, to ensure a holistic approach to treatment.

Through a cognitive behavioral framework, clients learn specific strategies to identify erroneous thoughts and beliefs systems that mediate emotional problems. Rational thoughts are systematically adopted through evidence and logic, replacing maladaptive thoughts that cause emotional difficulties.

Clients learn to achieve emotional wellness and balance by developing rational thoughts and beliefs systems, which are the antecedents of our emotions.

In addition to cognitive behavior techniques, a strong emphasis in psychotherapy is placed on developing competency to meet life’s challenges. Competency is the capability to apply or use a set of related knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform a task. It is developed by pushing just beyond the limit of our capabilities and comfort zone. Competency is the main precursor and driving force which leads to resilience.

Resilience is the capacity to cope in spite of setbacks, barriers and limited resources. Simply stated, resilience has to do with emotional fortitude.  It is the toughness that mediates the ability to persevere. Resilience is the essential trait which enables those with learning, emotional and social difficulties to:

  • Overcome their challenges.
  • Reach their fullest potential.
  • Provide a practical roadmap for how to lead productive lives and be of value to others.
